First, let me be perfectly clear, I am not a dietitian nor am I some dieting guru with a gold plated plan to turn you into a stud manlier than John Wayne; wilder than a phone booth full of bobcats; more ripped than 200lbs of twisted steel and sex appeal. Nor would I even suggest in the tiniest of ways that I could transform you into a Viking goddess with sinewy arms of steel, a butt carved from granite, and a torso to make Venus weep.
So, you’re thinking why am I even here?
Hey, all I want to do is provide you with some solid advice that will help you get stronger, healthier, maybe bigger, but most all, help you enjoy life. Because when you look good and really feel good – life is more fun. With all the stress, the trials, and tribulations of living – knowing that you are healthy and strong will give you some peace and calm in the turbulence. Ain’t nuthin wrong that!
Nutrition is one of the three major factors that will determine your success in “smart weight gain” and in getting stronger and fit. Exercise tears down your muscles. Your body uses the nutrition you feed it to rebuild your muscles. And your body does this while you rest. A no-brainer here, if you do not rest – your body does not get the opportunity to rebuild. And your nutritional intake just goes to keep your body going.
For this brief overview, I just want to do a quick hit on the two key breakdowns:
Macro Nutrients – Sources of Energy
- Protein – the building blocks of your muscles - Harvard School of Public Health
- Carbohydrates – source of both quick and long term energy - Mayo Clinic
- Fat – stored energy - American Heart Association
Micro Nutrients – Supports Metabolism
- Vitamins - Mayo Clinic
- Minerals - NIH Office of Dietary Supplements (yes, there is actually is a dietary supplement office in the US Fed govt evidently – good info, though)
- Water – drink lots of it; at least one cup per hour that you are awake. That’ll keep you hydrated, or floating away.
Although my intent is not to give you a certified course in diets, I do want to get you familiar with the building blocks of your diet. You must be familiar with these terms and how they relate to your fitness goals. Each term is linked to a deeper study on the subject by experts. Go there and learn as much as you need (but you do not need to become an expert).
Just know this, to gain weight; you must consume more than you expend. What you consume must be nutrient dense food that is food that has good macro and micro nutrient value with minimal empty calories.
I had a Ho-ho today (hey, we all gotta have vise, okay). Although they used milk, egg, and wheat to make it, I just can’t convince anyone that it is nutrient dense.

I am not dieting expert. Tom Venuto of burn the fat feed the muscle fame is. He also has a solid reputation as a straight shooter. If being featured as “an expert” on all the popular TV shows and magazine (not to mention a ridiculously long list of testimonials) count for anything, then Tom figures pretty high.
If you want partake of his knowledge, be forewarned, he will charge you $39.95 for instant access to his 340 page EBook and bonuses. Either hit the link to his website, or just google his name, if you want to research him some more.
In time, my objective is to have as comprehensive a site as possible on all things fitness and healthy weight gain and that includes, paradoxically, weight loss or really fat loss. The challenge is that I am not expert, I’m just a schmuck looking to share some of what I know. I also have another job that pays all the bills. I do this on my spare time, but no apologies or excuses here.
Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle is Tom’s main purpose, it seems to me. His expertise, his resources, etc. from his years to full time study into this all goes into his opus magnum and that is what you should consider investing it.
Just a thought.
