Almost everyone intuitively know when to rest and understand the need to rest. Unfortunately, overtraining, and the accompany guilt of not
training plague all of use. Especially when we begin to make progress, and again, when our progress slows. How’s that for a paradox or dictohomy or any other big word I can think.
The obvious point is that rest days are critical to your recovery. Not to put too fine a point on it, but without proper rest, you have no recovery. Rest is when your muscles repair itself, rebuild and get a little stronger and a little bigger. It also helps you maintain your enthusiasm for work outs.
Lack of sufficient rest days not only leads to stunted progress but also can lead to injuries from fatigue and overtraining.
But beyond resting your body, you also need to rest, and sometimes invigorate your mind.
Between the physical acts of sleep, you must engage in visualization, and for a lack of a better word, mediation to calm the body and mind.
This page and its subpages will be devoted to techniques that promote recovery of your body and mind.
