Working Out to Stay Young

Bodybuilding keeps you young, or so says Larry Scott.  And who am I do disagree with the “original” great one.  Under a month out from 50 – with a 2 girls ages 7 and 3 – anything to ensure that I am healthy and alive when my little girls are moving on with their families is welcome in my book.

So what am I getting at…

Haven’t a clue, just rambling…it is by post.

Actually, just want to talk about how great it feels to work out.

My day job is prepping for inventory.  That means many hours and no days off.  To make a long story short – haven’t worked out since last Saturday – so it’s been about 5 days.

But I’ve been doing Rusty’s Visual Impact program for a couple of weeks.  His rotation is Day 1 – Push/abs and Day 2 – Pull.  Last work was Pull, so today I did Push/abs.  So, it’s actually been probably 8 days since I did chest/shoulders/tris/abs.

Wow…

The pump, the tightness, the contraction in my pecs as I worked through the 1st set felt great…

Day job – with inventory prep – has been a touch stressful and tiring.  I’ve used that and other trivial excuses for not working out.

The truth is, of course, working out is the antidote to that.  Working out is powerfully reaffirming and powerfully effective in making one feel good – or great!

So…

What am I getting at…

Work out. It’s good for your body…It’s good for your soul…AND hopefully keep you young (if you’re middle age like me).

PS – if you check my chest page; I’ve provided some examples of decent chest workouts.  Rusty’s chest routine during phase I is a little different.  And I’ve had to modify it because his selections don’t work with my Bodylastics Band.

Rusty’s Original

  • Bench Press
  • Chest Flyes
  • Incline Dumbbell Presses

My tweak

  • Low to High Press (simulates incline dumbbell presses)
  • High to Low Flyes (kinda like cable flyes)
  • Elevated Pushups (incline barbell presses)

By the time I got to the pushups, my chest was contraction hard just from flexing – that felt great.  I think Rusty’s guidances in set/rep cadence that just keeps shoving more and more blood into the bodypart really works the pump.
